Component Breakdown

• Plug (Male Body): Houses the female sockets.
• Receptacle (Female Body): Houses the male pins.
• Wedgelock: The colored plastic piece that snaps into the front of the connector. It aligns the terminals and acts as a secondary lock to prevent them from pushing back out.

Solid vs. Stamped Contacts

Deutsch offers two types of contacts. Solid contacts are CNC machined, incredibly durable, and require an expensive 4-way indent crimper (HDT-48-00). Stamped and Formed contacts are folded from flat metal, cost significantly less, and use a standard B-crimp open-barrel tool. Choose one system and stick to it.

Assembly Steps (Solid Contacts)

1. Strip exactly 0.250" (6.35mm) of insulation.
2. Insert the wire into the solid contact. Ensure all strands are inside the barrel. You should be able to see the bare copper through the inspection hole on the side of the contact.
3. Insert the contact into the 4-way indent crimper and fully cycle the tool.
4. Push the crimped terminal straight into the rear of the connector body until you hear and feel a distinct "click" as the internal plastic finger locks behind the shoulder of the contact.
5. Look down the front of the connector. Ensure all terminals are seated at the exact same depth.
6. Insert the Wedgelock (Orange or Green) into the front of the connector until it clicks flush.
